Seoul-born beauty, actress and model Sung Hi Lee is only 5’4. She had trouble breaking into conventional, high fashion modeling due to her height but Lee has been able to carve out her own path according to her beauty and acting attributes. Born on April 1, 1970 in
Eun-Pyung Gu (Gi-Ja Chon), a borough of Korea, Sung Hi Lee ended up moving to America in 1978. Her childhood was filled with constant moving from one home to another in states like Illinois and Texas. But she was an excellent student in school, doing so well that she earned a full scholarship to Ohio State University.
While attending Ohio State where she was studying sports medicine, Lee went to an in-town night club holding a fashion show. Lee had not known in advance that the event was taking place, but she was asked to participate. An agent present at the show was impressed with Lee and suggested to her that she go on some modeling gigs that he would orchestrate. She would eventually go onto to be featured in the Pacific USA calendar series. Her Black Pearl edition in 1997 even sold out.
The modeling career in New York City was not as fulfilling or diverse as Lee would have liked due to her height, so a trip to L.A. landed Lee inside of the pages of Playboy Magazine instead. She had initially gone to L.A. to pursue both modeling and acting, but both gigs require interchangeable criteria to be met and Lee’s height was a hindrance once again. This was after she had worked some as a Hawaiian Tropic model. In the six years after 1992 Lee appeared in Playboy a total of 12 times.
Along with appearing in other nude photo shoots under the pseudonym Sandra Kim, Lee appeared in Playboy’s Wet & Wild and Sexy Swimsuits editions. Additionally, in 1996 Lee was the first Asian to be placed on the cover of Playboy. Her photos were seen in French, German and other countries’ editions of the magazine. She has also in starred in several commercials. Lee has been in commercials about diverse products: everything from Chrysler to Miller beer and on to Maxwell House Coffee.
Eventually the commercial gigs would give way to spots on TV shows. She dabbled in daytime television as the character Sophie, a waitress on the soap opera Days of our Lives. Sung Hi Lee ventured into comedy with the FOX network show Back to You also starring Kelsey Grammar. And the year 2007 brought the chance to play on a hit cult show like Lost in an episode largely about her character. Lee even participated in a made-for-TV movie in 1996 called Weapons of Mass Distraction. Her career on television has really run the gamut.
Lee’s movie career has been all over the spectrum as well. The year 1998 brought to her a role in the erotic film A Night on the Water. A year after that Lee landed a plum recurring role as a venom spitting character in the Mortal Kombat series. She starred alongside Renee Zellwegger in the comedy Nurse Betty in 2000. And the year 2004 brought to Sung Hi Lee tongue-in-cheek material in The Girl Next Door. Married on May 5, 2007 to boyfriend Jeremy Baker, Lee will enter 2008 starring in a film entitled Intervention, written by Joe Halpin. Once she has had her fill of the entertainment business, Lee has expressed her intention to go back and venture into her original career choice of sports medicine.
